Welcome to the Jan's Breathing Zone where we offer Breath Retraining, using the Buteyko Breathing Method. I’m Jan Lueken, the owner, director and teacher at Jan's Breathing Zone. I am a registered Buteyko Breathing Educator and Certified Aston Patterner. I offer classes, individual trainings, bodywork and movement training to assist residents of Los Angeles and around the country to achieve better health through the work that I teach. I am a Certified Qigong instructor and integrate Meditation and Awareness within all of my work.

  • I had discovered Buteyko Breathing quite by accident. An article in a magazine I had picked up waiting in a check out line mentioned it in passing. I had over several years been suffering from a nasal congestion that I self-treated with allergy medicine or decongestants. They worked but I was told your body becomes dependent on them and they are not good for you. I stoppedusing the decongestants sprays and when I did my symptoms returned. When I looked into Buteyko Method, it seemed that it could be helpful to help manage my particular issues. Jan’s office was conveniently located and after speaking with her over the phone, I decided to go for a thorough “retraining” of how I breathed. As the other reviewer stated, Jan can change your life. She did for me too. I want to point out how thrilling it is to learn tools that are both simple and profound that can be used on a daily basis to take control of not only how you’re breathing but how you're feeling because of how you're breathing. This being inLos Angeles, an epicenter for holistic living. Jan has a expansive history that informed how she approached me individually. My sessions could be compared to therapy in that I was ade to pay attention to what I was thinking and feeling when mh symptoms would manifest. The exercises you lear are both preventative and useful in the moment. But like everything else, it is up to oneself to do the work-there is homework. But it is so worth it! I want to say this is not a cure but in my case a method to help me manage my symptoms that has worked very effectively. But I do have lazy days when I do not make the time to devote the 15 minutes or so to properly go through my breathing routines - I can feel it. There are days when I allow a stressful situation to high jack my breathing and my symptoms return. The beauty of the Buteyko Method is that I am now conscious of the triggers and can take a few moments to go through an exercise to get me back on track for the day. I recommend you get in touch with Jan yourself. She is a great woman who is dedicated to your we'll being. It is cliche to say “breath is life”, but it is true.and so many of us are breathingincorrectly and inefficiently. If you have any concerns about your breathing, whether it be asthma or allergies and want to investigate other methods to combat it outside of prescriptions or one the counter meds, look into the Buteyko Breathing Method yourself.
